Balanced diet for a golfer

Whether you are playing golf for fun or as a pro, it tests your physical and mental endurance. Having a balanced diet is one of the most neglected aspects of the game. A golfer is supposed to get at least 50% of the total caloric intake from carbohydrates like whole grains, pastas, breads, rice, vegetables, fruits, and low-fat dairy. Carbohydrates help provide energy to the brain and the nervous system. It helps to preserve protein and at the same time burn fat. Consuming proper amount of carbohydrates helps to maintain your blood glucose levels which help the golfer to concentrate better.

Protein is also important. You can choose lean protein sources like chicken, fish, loin cuts of beef or legumes. They help in the growth and repair of muscles. Intake of adequate amounts of fuel is extremely important for any golfer.

You must keep sipping fluids before, after and during the game.  Even a slight dehydration can cause your performance to falter. Try and avoid fatty foods and sweets as much as possible. No individual is similar in structure or constitution. It is best to take an expert opinion from a dietician and then create your diet chart.
