December 23rd, 2015

Every serious golfer dreams of stepping up to the tee at one of the best golf resorts in the world. Whether it’s something you’ve dreamt about, or are actively searching for the best location for your next golf vacation, we have gathered a few of our favorites to help your dreams take shape.

The Argentario Resort, Tuscany

The Argentario Golf Resort Lobby

The Argentario Golf Resort Lobby

The philosophy of the Argentario Resort, a member of the Design Hotels™ group, revolves around the pursuit of wellness and the respect for the environment.

The luxury resort includes 73 rooms and 1 cottage with an incredible view over the golf course, Monte Argentario’s landscape or Orbetello Lagoon. Each design accommodation features a terrace and the latest technologies, and is the result of a meticulous research on materials and fittings.

Located next to Porto Ercole, this 5-star hotel is surrounded by cork-oak woods and centuries-old olive trees in Tuscany’s Maremma, home to hares, deer, squirrels, wild boars and a variety of bird species. For outdoor sports lovers, the resort offers three tennis courts, a football field and jogging trails.

The panoramic location and the elegance of the luxury resort create the ideal and relaxed setting for both fairytale weddings and business meetings or conferences.

The range of services is completed by the gourmet Dama Dama restaurant, which offers Maremman, Tuscan and Italian cuisine through wholesome and tasty dishes that are prepared with local products.

The Golf Club & Course

Argentario Golf Course

Argentario Golf Course

The Argentario Golf Club, which hosts various of the most important golf tournaments in Tuscany and Italy, features 18 panoramic holes for a total of 6,218 metres and par 71. The course has been awarded the “Agri Cert” certification for its bio eco-compatibility, and all products used for its maintenance are completely natural.

The golf course is located in a protected natural area, only 5 minutes from the Duna Feniglia Nature Reserve and 25 km from the Parco dell’Uccellina Reserve. The Orbetello Lagoon, the sea and the hillside offer a beautiful panorama and create a microclimate that allows golf to be played at any time of the year.

The 18-hole golf course and the driving range, which were inaugurated in 2006, have been designed by the architect David Mezzacane and the professional golfer Baldovino Dassù. The holes were subsequently shaped by Brian Jorgensen: the result is a varied, spectacular and technically challenging course.

Among the 18 panoramic holes with mostly small greens, two dominate the sea and the lagoon, one is immersed in the Mediterranean vegetation, and another features water hazard running along one side of the green. A refreshing breeze mitigates the temperature and adds an extra challenge to the game which, on this course, requires a combination of accuracy and power.

See What’s New From Callaway at Budget Golf

December 11th, 2015

Callaway Golf was founded in 1982 by the late Ely Callaway, a visionary entrepreneur who operated under a simple but profound business promise: deliver superior, pleasingly different products and services. That philosophy turned what was originally a boutique manufacturer of high-quality wedges and putters into the world’s largest maker of premium, performance golf products. The Callaway mission and vision has remained the same; they passionately pursue advanced, innovative technologies that help golfers of all abilities find more enjoyment from the game.

Their 2015 releases are no exception to that philosophy, combining time-tested technology with 33 years worth of innovation.

Callaway Great Big Bertha Driver

callaway great big bertha driver

Callaway Great Big Bertha Driver

This is Callaway’s greatest combination of speed, forgiveness and distance.

The Great Big Bertha Driver is back, and it represents the next frontier in driver design. This advanced adjustable driver has a light, fast, stable chassis unlike any other driver they’ve had before. It’s a technological breakthrough, and it’s built to get the most distance for ALL golfers.

So how did Callaway make this breakthrough? They optimized the multi-material chassis to generate more clubhead speed through aerodynamics and a wide range of weight classes to suit every swing type. Callaway also developed next gen R•MOTO technology that provides the structure for a thinner face which leads to high ball speeds on center and off-center hits. And they added Adjustable Perimeter Weighting on the perimeter of the head for ball flight and dispersion control with exceptional forgiveness.

Simple Adjustability

You can quickly slide the weight to any position you want on the track. And theOptifit hosel lets you choose from 8 different configurations to tune loft, lie, and face angle.

Forgiveness and Control From Adjustable Perimeter Weighting

There’s a 10g sliding weight on the perimeter of the clubhead. We put it there to add stability, and you can slide the weight for more dispersion control to hit your drives on line. You have virtually unlimited draw and fade bias options, more additional draw bias than ever before, and you get all of this without sacrificing forgiveness.

Optifit hosel

The Optifit hosel lets you choose from 8 different configurations to tune loft, lie, and face angle.

High Ball Speed from Next Gen R•MOTO Technology

To get every last yard out of your driver, you need more speed. That’s why we put in our Next Gen R•MOTO Technology. It provides the structure for a thinner face, leading to high ball speeds on center hits and off-center hits too.

Head Speed From Our Light, Stable, Multi-Material Chassis

This is the best combination Callaway has ever had of an aerodynamic head shape and multi-material lightweight club design. It’s the key to generating higher clubhead speed through aerodynamics and a wide range of weight classes available to suit every swing type, from 295 to 325g.

Stock Standard Shafts:

  • MRC Bassara 43g (Women’s, Light, Regular)
  • Mitsubishi Kuro Kage Black 50 (Light, Regular, Stiff, X-Stiff)
  • Fujikura Evolution 665 Tour Spec (Regular, Stiff, X-Stiff)
  • Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 70 (Stiff, X-Stiff)

Callaway Great Big Bertha Fairway Wood

Callaway Great Big Bertha Fairway Wood

Callaway Great Big Bertha Fairway Wood

The Callaway Great Big Bertha Fairway Wood is a breakthrough in technology for more distance and playability, with a Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup for ball speed and a Modern Warbird Sole that makes it easy to hit. This is Callaway’s fastest fairway wood technology with the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup, and it’s built for the ultimate in forgiveness and control.

Features & Details

High Ball Speeds From Cup Face Technology

They’re serious about giving you the most distance in a fairway wood, and we put in our Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup to show that we mean business. It’s designed for high speeds that make the ball go a long way on center hits and off-center hits.

Ultimate Playability and Control

The head is larger than our typical fairway wood, and that extra surface area leads to a higher MOI for more forgiveness. We also added our legendary WarbirdSoleplate which makes the club easy to hit from a variety of lies with a mid-launching trajectory.

Special Heavenwood and Divine Nine Options

These two clubs have a unique combination and tighter dispersion than you might get from your regular club configuration. The Heavenwood (20.5* loft, 43” shaft) and Divine Nine (24*, 42” shaft) could give you the perfect gapping for your bag.

OptiFit Adjustability

Tune the fairway wood to the settings you want to play with our 8-way adjustability. You can add loft, take loft off or adjust the lie angle to fit your swing.*

*OptiFit Adjustability not available in 7W and Divine 9.

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond Driver

The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond Driver delivers extreme distance for better players, featuring a deeper face, next gen R•MOTO Face, and Dual Distance Chambers with the Gravity Core for optimized ball speed and shot-shaping.

Features & Details

Extreme Distance From Dual Distance Chambers

If you’re looking for a neutral or draw ball flight to work the ball with more control, pick the left or right chamber. Then set the Gravity Core up or down depending on where you hit the ball for maximum ball speed. It’s a distance turbo charger to increase your ball speed and the ultimate combination of extreme distance and shot-shaping control for the best players.

Ball Speed From Next Gen R•MOTO Technology

To get every last yard out of your driver, you need more speed. That’s why we put in our next generation R•MOTO Technology. It provides the structure for a thinner face, leading to high ball speeds on center hits and off-center hits too.

A Deeper Face, Traditional Shape and a Low Center of Gravity

The best players want a deeper face, a traditional shape and a low center of gravity to reduce spin with just the right amount of forgiveness and workability. And that’s exactly what we’re giving them with this driver. The shape of the crown, the open face angle, and the matte black finish with no distractions all suit better players’ eyes when they’re standing over the ball.

OptiFit Adjustability

Tune the driver to the settings you want to play with our 8-way adjustability. You can add loft, take loft off or adjust the lie angle to fit your swing.

Shaft Options:

  • New Aldila Rogue I/O 60 (Regular, Stiff, X-Stiff)
  • Mitsubishi Diamana D+ 70 (Stiff, X-Stiff)

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood

The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Wood is designed with better players in mind, and it’s our most advanced fairway wood, providing speed and adjustability for low-handicap golfers.

Features & Benefits

High Ball Speed From Cup Face Technology

Good players already generate high ball speeds, and the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup will generate ball speed on center and off-center shots with this fairway wood.

Tour Preferred CG Positions

Move the adjustable weights (3g and 16g) for the ball flight you want to play. When you want to lower spin put the weight forward, and when the weight is back you’ll have more forgiveness with higher launch. It can be a long option off the tee or a more playable club on approach shots – it all depends on how you want to use it.

Modern Shaping and Sole Design

A slightly larger head provides more MOI than you would expect out of an elite player’s fairway wood. The sole design provides control from a variety of lies. The matte black finish provides an uncluttered look at address.

OptiFit Adjustability

Tune the fairway wood to the settings you want to play with our 8-way adjustability. You can add loft, take loft off or adjust the lie angle to fit your swing.

Callaway MD3 Milled Matte Black Wedge

Callaway MD3 Milled Matte Black Wedge

Callaway MD3 Milled Matte Black Wedge

The MD3 Milled Wedges have the versatility and selection for every shot, every course condition, and every swing. It’s the most complete wedge line that Callaway has ever created. By leveraging 3 unique grinds (S-Grind, C-Grind, and the new W-Grind), our new milled Progressive Groove Optimization system that optimizes spin for each loft, and advanced shaping and design, you can specialize your wedges to your game and all the shots that you want to hit.

Legendary wedge designer Roger Cleveland received extensive input from Tour players, and he used their feedback to craft the toe profile, sole and grinds of MD3Milled. And now there are even more custom options for shafts, grips, and finishes. These wedges give you everything you need to get up and down from anywhere.

3 Grinds For Every Shot, Every Condition, and Every Swing

W-Grind

A slightly wider sole. It’s perfect if you play in softer conditions or you come in with a steep angle to the ball. And it’s extremely playable out of all types of bunkers.

S-Grind

Our most versatile option. It’s great for a wide range of conditions (normal, soft, or firm). shot types and swings (moderate to sweeping angles)

C-Grind

Designed for firmer conditions and versatility around the green. The heel and toe relief allow for a number of shots, especially opening up the face and keeping the lead edge low.

Progressive Groove Optimization

The MD3 Milled line has Progressive Groove Optimization. A 3 groove package precision milled into the face of these wedges that optimizes spin as you up in loft. It creates a smoother spin transition from your irons to wedges. The 30V grooves in the Pitching and Gap Wedges are built for shots that require a steep angle into the ball. The 20V grooves in the sand wedges are designed for full shots and bunker shots, and we put in wider 5V grooves in the lob wedges for better control for shots out of the rough and around the green.

Advanced Shaping and Design

Legendary Callaway wedge designer Roger Cleveland took Tour input and blended that with advanced CAD design. The result is a balanced wedge with a high toe profile and a semi-straight leading edge. The weight ports in the back of the wedge gave Callaway the freedom to reposition the weight for better shot-making, especially out of deep rough.

Choose from a wide selection of shafts, grips, and finishes to make the MD3 Milled your own.

In addition to the premier layout, guests can enjoy a full practice range and separate short-game facility. GPS-equipped golf cars are available, or you may take advantage of the caddie program.

Founded in 1999 in Arcadia, Michigan, the course is built on the bluffs above the shore of Lake Michigan and sits on approximately 245 windswept acres of lakefront property. This championship golf course on one of Indiana’s highest elevation points has narrow, immaculate fairways and rugged, intense terrain. The course has gained national acclaim for its 40-mile panoramic views of the southern Indiana countryside, three man-made lakes, “volcano” bunkers and a variety of elevation changes. Harbour Town Golf Course

Harbour Town Golf Course

Harbour Town Golf Links re-opened on September 28, 2015 after undergoing a series of course enhancements over the summer.

The tee boxes, fairways and rough have been replaced with Celebration Bermuda grass, the most scientifically advanced surface used on warm season courses. The greens were re-grassed with Tif-Eagle Bermuda, the same turf used on the putting surfaces since 2001. A new irrigation system was also installed with the most advanced technology in water management and control.

This distinguished golf course places a premium on finesse, imagination and shot-making, rather than strength, making it a perennial favorite among PGA TOUR players. Put your game to the ultimate test – against a collection of par threes ranked among the world’s finest and a par-4 18th hole considered one of the most feared in all of golf, particularly when the wind is blowing off Calibogue Sound. The crowning achievement of famed designer Pete Dye, this celebrated PGA TOUR golf course is a true test of the game of golf.

The Wynn Golf Club Las Vegas, NV

wynn-las-vegas-public-golf-course

Wynn Las Vegas Public Golf Course

From its rolling greens to its white-sand bunkers and rushing streams, you may forget you’re in Las Vegas while at the Wynn Golf Club. The 18-hole, par-70 course—designed by Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn—was conceived with the rolling hills of South Carolina or Georgia in mind.

As a part of being the only golf course attached to a resort on the Las Vegas strip, their team is well prepared to get you from room-to-tee without ever leaving the resort. Can’t bring your own equipment? Complimentary clubs by Callaway and shoes by Foot Joy are always provided and their professional caddies are available to help you master the course.

Pacific Dunes Bandon, OR

Pacific Dunes Public Golf Course

Pacific Dunes Public Golf Course

This 18-hole, par-71 public course is remarkably different in character and shot-making requirements than many other courses. Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2001, Pacific Dunes doesn’t feel like it was built as much as it was discovered. Rippling fairways remain just as they were found and natural bunkers line the landscape as they have for centuries. Pacific Dunes is short enough to give you hope, but rugged enough to test every facet of your game.

“Welcome to the first hole at Pacific Dunes. The fairway landing area is generous, so try to gauge your tee shot to leave 100-125 yards into the green. A tee shot left of center provides a better angle to this green nestled into the sand dunes.” Read more about the rest of the course.

PERFORMANCE FOR EVERY SWING

TaylorMade’s longest driver, the M1 has a multi-material construction – featuring an ultra-thin, ultra-light and high-strength carbon composite crown – that unlocks breakthroughs in distance, playability, and feel for all golfers.

Each golfer has a unique swing and in the past it’s been challenging to provide ideal launch conditions to all player types with a single club.  The construction ofM1 allows better players to create the shot they want and other golfers, the shot they need.

Personal Fit System

Three-step head adjustment system of loft sleeve, Front Track & Back Track – plus featured stock shaft offerings – M1 gives golfers a tour-level fitting without the truck.
Loft Sleeve – A 4° (+/- 2°), 12-position, sleeve for the golfers preference of face angle, loft and lie. Available Lofts: 8.5º, 9.5º, 10.5 º, 12º

Multi-Material Construction

M stands for Multi-Material and it’s the key that unlocks performance in M1.  This construction is highlighted by our proprietary 7-layer Carbon Composite Crown that is precision-formed and built ultra-thin, ultra-lite and high strength to maximize weight savings.  This addition has allowed TaylorMade to build a weight-loaded sole and move overall clubhead weight (and, thus, the center-of-gravity) lower for a more efficient power transfer; giving golfers more ball speed.

The Carbon Composite Crown has also allowed TaylorMade to give golfers 25 grams of multi-directional adjustability, allowing them to personalize launch conditions – fit to their swing – and optimize ball-flight, trajectory and, ultimately, distance.

T-Track System

To make their longest, just that for a wide range of golfers, TaylorMade needed to expand the settings to give golfers more options to personalize performance to fit their game.  M1 features the revolutionary T-Track System that consists of both a Front and Back Track with 25 grams of adjustable weight:

  • Front Track:  One – 15 gram weight to provide multiple draw, neutral and fade settings
  • Back Track:  One – 10 gram weight adjusts for multiple high, medium and low launch and spin settings

The revolutionary T-Track System gives golfers the option to personalize their M1to their exact specifications, leading to optimal performance and distance to fit their swing.

How to putt like Jason Day:
Walk the line and get a feel for the pitch of the green.

“You’re not walking around the putt,” Day said recently at a media outing presented by Adidas at Reynolds Plantation. “In this case, you’re walking the line so you may be feeling something with your feet that you can’t see, even if you’re staring down from the hole to the ball. You’re able to feel the actual putting line.”

Why? Your eyes can sometimes deceive you. Course designers are notorious for optical illusions, using the lay of the land to trick your eyes into either seeing breaks that aren’t there, or hiding subtle breaks that are.

The only way to tell for sure is to use your sense of touch, through your feet.
